Growing up I have always had a fondness for animals. I spent time in High School belonging to the Humane Society club, volunteering at the MSPCA Barn, and even worked at the Salem Animal Hospital my Junior year.
Pets have been a part of my entire life, even now we have a family pooch named Tubby who is absolutely amazing (most of the time ;) ) so when I started this business of producing and selling my art I always felt like I wasn't doing enough, like I needed more. Don't get me wrong, I love what I do, the interaction with my clients is what makes my job unbelievable, but there was still something missing......
If you've peeked at my work (thank you if you have) I have a wide variety of things that I paint or draw. Landscapes, flowers, people, animals, etc. but I've always loved painting pets. There is something in their eyes, an innocence that is so amazing to capture (again, I love painting people and other things, and they each have a significant meaning to me), it's like you can tell everything there is to know about an animal just by looking into their eyes. After doing my fair share of pet portraits and absolutely LOVING it I knew I had to reach out.......
A little over a month ago I gained enough courage (certainly not one of the easier parts of being an artist is approaching people to actually buy or partner with you) to contact my local shelter here in Manchester. I put myself, my ideas, and my art out there hoping they would consider partnering with me, and my goal was set into motion.
Now here I am, officially painting pet portraits and donating 50% of the sale to the Shelter. I'm even participating in their Mutt Strut tomorrow, showcasing my work, getting the word out there to raise money for the shelter. Knowing and seeing how much love goes into a shelter and how much these animals NEED the support, it is just another amazing reason as to why I LOVE my job. Not many people can say that they not only get to do what they love, and get to help an amazing cause everyday.
The reason for this blog? Have courage, reach out, follow your dreams and what you believe in, even if it takes awhile.....never give up on what you want to achieve.....
